This delightful late 17th century fisherman’s cottage is light and airy with a lovely beach-house feel being just yards from the West Mersea waterfront. Enjoy views of the salt marshes, beach, houseboats and boats at anchor from the bedrooms or sit in the large garden enjoying the quiet of the peaceful location of West Mersea.
Island Cottage, Mersea Island (with private parking) is situated just yards from the beach/ sea and a stroll from the fabulous famous waterside fish restaurants in West Mersea. It is a delightful location for a weekend away or self-catering holiday with wifi included.
Mersea Island is ideal for sailing, bird-watching, swimming, walking and watersports and is reached by the strood. Mersea is famous for its seafood – Dukes Seafood and The Company Shed have very good reputations with diners travelling miles for the fresh fish, oysters and lobsters. If wanting to stay at home there are delis, shops, farm shops and supermarkets within walking distance. Pubs such as The Victory and White Hart serve tasty food within a short walk.
If wishing to travel off the island there are many wonderful places to visit including Malden, Colchester, Wivenhoe, Constable Country (Flatford Mill/Dedham) and the beautiful countryside in Essex and Suffolk. You can drive to Southwold and Aldeborough and back in a day if you want to see some of Suffolk. The nearby country club offers golf, swimming and a health spa. There is free parking at the property.

Dining room has a table and chairs for four leading into a comfortable, sunny sitting room with TV including Freeview and Netflix (with your login). A few steep cottage stairs lead to two bedrooms – one double and one twin (2’6” beds). Linen for beds and towels included. Parking on property . Large garden. Patio for furniture.

Mersea Island Coastal Location
West Mersea and East Mersea are on the East coast of Essex just 25 minutes from the old Roman town of Colchester. Mersea is known for its oysters and seafood which are farmed locally on the Blackwater Estuary East Mersea has its own vineyard and brewery creating West Mersea Wine and Beer.

Enjoy the seafood at The Company Shed near the boat hard and anchorage, the West Mersea Oyster Bar, Dukes Seafood, Seafood at Dawn, East Mersea and The Coast Inn. The Victory pub is only a short walk from Island Cottage. Estuary and beach walks are all around the island. Newly opened The White Hart and established Art Cafe are in the village.

West Mersea holds Mersea Week and West Mersea Regatta every year normally in August. East Mersea holds the Food and Drink festival
For Radio fans
Enjoy a visit Radio Caroline's legendary former pirate radio ship Ross Revenge where it is moored on River Blackwater in Essex. Boat trips from West Mersea take place to visit and tour the ship during monthly live broadcast weekends and when there is no broadcast. Visitors are taken out to Ross Revenge from the jetty in West Mersea, Essex on the tender Razorbill 3. Tours of the ship last approx one-and-a-half hours and the journey time between West Mersea and the ship is approx 20 mins.
